The Ca-looping process has already been developed on an industrial scale for improving conversion in gasification processes, but the emphasis has not yet been on CCS. Several pilot projects have been initiated with the purpose of scaling-up Ca-looping technology specifically for CCS. These innovative projects have demonstrated CO2 capture efficiencies in excess of 80%, but future work is necessary to improve overall process efficiencies, and to generate a pure enough CO2 stream for storage applications.
